Tottenham transfer news: Christian Eriksen future hinging on three clubs as deadline nears | Football | Sport

Christian Eriksen could still leave Tottenham ahead of Monday night’s European transfer deadline with both Paris Saint Germain and Juventus weighing up moves, though those clubs are only likely to make moves if Barcelona sign Neymar.

The Danish international, 27, is out of contract at the end of the season and has refused to sign a new deal in a hope of securing a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.

He told the Champions League finalists that he wanted a new challenge but saw a move to Madrid collapse earlier in the summer.

And his future remains in doubt especially as Mauricio Pochettino has only started him once so far this season which was in the draw with Premier League champions Man City.

Tottenham are believed to want around £50million for Eriksen and if he stays at White Hart Lane or goes could well depend on moves elsewhere.

French giants PSG have got him on their list of potential targets if Brazilian superstar Neymar gets his wish and completes his return to Barcelona.

Meanwhile Juve have got an eye on Eriksen if PSG opt for Argentinean frontman Paulo Dybala who was a summer target for Tottenham until a move fell through over image rights payments.

Mauricio Pochettino, however, suggested that Eriksen will be staying in north London having not left the club on Saturday.

Speaking earlier this week, he said: “On Saturday we are going to know if Christian is going to be with us or not.

“That is the most important thing. After, [on] Sunday it is the game, there is no real time to do something.

“He’s working hard. That’s my judgement, with my staff. You need to be right. People need to trust.

“If we make the decision that he’s going to play it’s because we believe he can perform in the way that we expect or we need him to perform.

“You cannot be 100 per cent right in your judgement. If some people have more information to make that decision, it’s us.

“People will say, ‘why are you playing Christian?’ The team-mates can say, ‘why are you playing Christian if the rumour is he’s going to leave?’ [or] ‘Gaffer, why am I not playing when Christian wants to leave, is looking to go away?’

“In this situation, there are plenty of things that happen inside that I cannot translate to you and you to our fans.

“The only way of working hard and being all together is trusting in us, in our decision, in our judgement. Because it is so difficult.”
