Tottenham news: Robbie Savage trolls Spurs with Christian Eriksen comment | Football | Sport

Robbie Savage dismissed talks of Christian Eriksen being able to enjoy trophies with Tottenham because the last time they won silverware he was still playing football.

Savage touched on rumours suggesting that Eriksen might leave Spurs during the January transfer window before his contract runs out in the summer.

The football pundit, however, believes Mauricio Pochettino’s side will seriously struggle to finish in the top four this season if they lose the Denmark international.

The ex-Leicester ace believes the attacking midfielder would have better chances of winning trophies with another major club – like Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain who kept tabs on him in the summer – than if he stays in north London.

Tottenham haven’t won any silverware since 2008 when they prevailed in the League Cup final against Chelsea.

Savage pointed out that this was so long ago that he was still playing football at that time.

He told the Daily Mirror: “I’m not convinced, either, about Tottenham’s top-four chances – especially if they don’t keep hold of Christian Eriksen in January.

“One pundit said Eriksen had more chance of winning trophies if he stayed with Spurs instead of joining one of the big guns in Europe, but when was the last time Tottenham won anything?

“It’s so long ago that I was still playing…”

Tottenham came close to winning the Champions League last season as they made it to the final in Madrid.

Pochettino’s side eliminated the likes of Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City on their way to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Spurs also completed a magnificent comeback against Ajax in the semi-finals.

The Premier League giants came back from a three-goal deficit and went through with a 3-3 aggregate.

However, the north London club lost to Premier League rivals Liverpool 2-0 in the final.
