Police on Saturday said there were “multiple gunshot victims” in west Texas after one or more suspects opened fire.
The Midland, Texas, Police Department said on Facebook that a suspected shooter at the Cinergy, an entertainment centre, was shot and killed. They added that “there is no active shooter at this time. All agencies are investigating reports of possible suspects”.
Midland authorities did not comment on earlier reports of another suspected shooter driving on the Loop 250 in Midland. Earlier on Saturday, Midland police said suspects were believed to be driving “a gold/white small Toyota truck and a USPS postal van”.
Authorities in Odessa, Texas, said a shooter is believed to be driving a US Postal Service vehicle. It is unclear if the Midland and Odessa police are referring to the same suspect. They also said one or possibly two suspects hijacked the postal vehicle and was firing at random, hitting multiple people.
The University of Texas Permian Basin campus has gone into lock-down. There have been no reports of fatalities.
The Texas Department of Public Safety has urged residents to avoid major highways in the area, including Interstate 20.
