Pep Guardiola makes Liverpool admission after Man City lay title marker with Watford win | Football | Sport

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola believes Liverpool are one of the best teams he has ever seen.

Guardiola’s City aren’t too bad themselves and showed their attacking talent with an 8-0 demolition of Watford on Saturday.

Bernardo Silva scored a hat-trick as City waltzed into a 5-0 lead inside just 18 minutes.

It means Guardiola’s side closed the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to just two points, though the Reds face Chelsea on Sunday (4.30pm).

And having just edged out Jurgen Klopp’s side to win the league last term, Guardiola has praised Liverpool.

“I see my players in training every day,” said Guardiola. “The team ahead of us is one of the best teams I have ever seen in my career.

“They have lost one (Premier League) game in 18 months.”

City fell just one short of equalling the record win in the Premier League as they hammered Watford.

And Guardiola enjoyed his afternoon at the Etihad following last week’s defeat to Norwich.

“One of the things I like the most, the second half at 5-0, the team think of themselves and don’t do what you have to defensively but it was completely the opposite,” he said.

“We were more aggressive in our high pressing. That is why the second half is more than decent, we score more goals and we play good.

“It is weird, it is not normal, five shots, five goals. In the same time we gave them two chances to score.

“The quality we have is a joy to watch. After 5-0 the game is completely different. We were ruthless in terms of five shots, five goals.

“Sometimes you shoot 15 times or 20 and can’t do it. It was a lovely day for all of us, for our City fans in the sunshine and a lot of goals.”
