As expected, winds of change have begun to blow in the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and along with it the first wicket amongst the Board’s professionally-hired staff has fallen after the BCCI elections held last month.

The Board’s first Chief Financial Officer, Santosh Rangnekar, put in his papers on Thursday. Rangnekar refused to comment on the development, but it’s reliably learnt that that he has chosen to resign.

Rangnekar was hired in 2016 as the Lodha reforms mandated the recruitment of a CFO. The BCCI will now have to float an ad for the job of a new CFO in the Board. However, it could not be separately confirmed if Rangnekar will be quitting the position with immediate effect or serve his notice period. In July this year, the CFO was handed a fancy appraisal by the Committee of Administrators (COA) that became a talking point.

During his stint as CFO, his allegations against then treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry, the trips to the United States, his bringing up of the Champions League T20 payment history and more – all of these remained a subject of discussion. Whether Rangnekar serves the notice period or walks away with a severance package or none of it will have to be seen.
