That’s the opinion of former footballer Jan Aage Fjortoft who has taken to social media to explain why the Netherlands star would be perfect for the Red Devils.
And he has also revealed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is working hard to complete a deal for the 19-year-old.
De Ligt has been instrumental in helping Ajax win the Dutch title and make the Champions League semi-finals this season.
And that has alerted the likes of United, Liverpool and Barcelona to his talents.
Fjortoft tweeted: “…If there is signing that is perfect for @ManUtd it is Ajax-captain de Ligt.
“Center half (tick), Leader (tick), Young (tick)
“Everything the club is missing right now.
“Be sure! They are working VERY hard to get him.”
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claims Manchester United’s interest has cooled though after they failed to qualify for the Champions League.
“The interest from [Manchester] United cooled down because of the cost and there wasn’t much reciprocation of love from De Ligt because they are not in the Champions League next season,” Balague said on his YouTube channel.
“That was taken out of the list quite a long time ago.
“In the case of Liverpool, they showed an interest 18 months ago and they found out all the information they needed from him but that has not moved on.
“They know what Ajax want and they knew at the time De Ligt wanted in wages.
“To be honest, that figure has changed.
“Mino Raiola has realised the stock of his client has increased and now he can get more money.”
De Ligt has made an astonishing 55 appearances in all competitions for Ajax this season.
