Liverpool news: Why Jurgen Klopp will be surprised at one goal against Burnley – Carragher | Football | Sport

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be surprised at the second goal his team scored against Burnley today, claims Reds legend Jamie Carragher.

Liverpool headed into the Premier League clash at Turf Moor as the only team in the top flight with a 100 per cent record this season.

They took the lead through a fluke goal, with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s attempted cross wrong-footing Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope following a deflection from Chris Wood.

It was soon 2-0 when Clarets centre-back Ben Mee gave the ball away to Roberto Firmino, who broke and fed Sadio Mane, who finished with aplomb.

Carragher says it was not the type of goal Sean Dyche’s side usually concede.

And he reckons Klopp would have been surprised his team scored in that fashion.

“I think coming into this game that’s a goal Jurgen Klopp probably didn’t think Liverpool would score today,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“That’s a goal you see a lot from Liverpool, they win the ball and they go quickly.

“[But] because Burnley normally play direct, they like to play forward, you don’t expect the centre-back to lose the ball there and to be able to catch them on the counter attack.

“So again I think Sean Dyche will be not happy basically that the first one was too easy for Liverpool to go through and the second one, a goal that they don’t normally concede.”

Meanwhile, former Burnley forward Jonathan Walters believes Burnley should have just fouled Firmino and taken a yellow card instead of allowing him to run free and find Mane.

“I would have taken the yellow and taken him out early doors,” Walters said.

“Once you’ve got two on two, Firmino and Mane running at you, nine times out of 10 it’s a goal.

“You’ve just got to stop them in their tracks early.”
