The eight remaining sides received their fate today in the quarter-finals draw in Nyon, Switzerland.
And Liverpool could not be happier with the draw after they were paired with Porto.
The Primeira Liga outfit are no strangers to Jurgen Klopp, his side thumped them 5-0 on aggregate in last season’s Round of 16.
A stunning performance in Portugal saw Sergio Conceicao’s team blown away by the Reds, who eventually fell short in the final against Real Madrid.
Despite the pleasing outcome of the draw, Liverpool know they can’t underestimate Porto who recently edged their semi-final opponents from last year, Roma.
Manchester United were drawn against Barcelona and they will be keen to seek revenge for defeats in the 2009 and 2011 finals.
If the two Premier League sides are triumphant, they will meet in the semi-finals in what will be a mouthwatering spectacle.
The draw currently has Liverpool down to play the first leg of a potential semi final away from home, with the second leg at Anfield.
That could change though, if Manchester City and United both progress, the Reds will see the scheduled reversed.
Any potential advantage of playing the second leg at home would then fall into the hands of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.
Of course, it is still no given that either side will qualify for the semi-finals, all four ties are set to be extremely competitive.
United have already seen their clash with Barcelona switched so they are at home first, after Man City were drawn away to Tottenham.
Uefa’s statement before the draw read:
“Manchester City and Manchester United will not be able to play at home on the same night, nor on consecutive nights, following a decision made by the relevant local authorities.
“Therefore, should both clubs be drawn at home in the same week, the team having finished lower in the domestic league the previous season – in this case Manchester United – will be reversed in accordance with the UEFA Club Competitions Committee principles.”
