Chelsea player ratings vs Dynamo Kiev: Giroud dominant but trio also impress with 8/10 | Football | Sport

Chelsea cruised into the quarter-finals of the Europa League with an excellent 5-0 victory over Dynamo Kiev away from home.

Giroud opened the scoring with a header after just five minutes and doubled his tally following good work from Marcos Alonso after half an hour.

The Spanish left-back also got on the scoresheet before .

Dynamo Kiev had two goals disallowed but Callum Hudson-Odoi added gloss to the scoreline with a fifth goal as Maurizio Sarri’s men triumphed 8-0 on aggregate.

Express Sport has rated how the Chelsea players performer during their win over Dynamo Kiev, but do you agree?

GK: Kepa Arrizabalaga – 5

Picked the ball out the back of his net twice but the goals were ruled out on both occasions.

Little else to do as Chelsea cruised through.

RB: Davide Zappacosta – 6

Had a quiet if composed evening before picking up an injury midway through the second half.

CB: Antonio Rudiger – 6

A stroll in the park for the German as Dynamo failed to pose a consistent threat.

CB: Andreas Christensen – 6

Like Rudiger, Christensen was rarely tested and Sarri will be pleased to have given David Luiz the night off.

LB: Marcos Alonso – 8

Whipped in an excellent ball for Giroud’s second, making the most of the freedom offered by Dynamo’s back line, then got on the scoresheet himself after great work from Hudson-Odoi.

Went close again with a brilliant free-kick as he looked to get back in Sarri’s first-team plans.

CM: Mateo Kovacic – 6

Looks a safe pair of hands in the holding role against inferior opposition, allowing Jorginho a much-needed rest.

Kept Chelsea ticking over with his ball retention and allowed others to get forward.

CM: N’Golo Kante – 6

Got forward with plenty of impetus and came close to bagging a rare goal when he exchanged passes with Giroud midway through the first half.

CM: Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 7

Went close with an early effort that was well saved and used his power to dictate play in central midfield.

RAM: Callum Hudson-Odoi – 8

Buzzed around with plenty of intent as he looked to make an impression on Sarri and had a huge role in Chelsea’s third.

Darted in off the wing with some neat interplay then laid the ball on a plate for Alonso to slide home.

Showed neat skill to bring a rash challenge out of Vitaliy Mykolenko then showed great composure to add a fifth after being played in by Giroud.

LAM: Willian – 8

Provided the assist for the opener with a pin-point corner then repeated the trick with another expert cross for Giroud’s third.

Good to see consistency with his deliveries, which has been lacking at times this season.

ST: Olivier Giroud – 9

Got up well to head home the opening goal inside five minutes and proceeded to terrorise the Dynamo defence with his physical presence.

On hand to tap home Alonso’s cross before completing his hat-trick with another header from Willian’s free-kick.

Probably should have had a couple more as he completely dominated the opposition in the air but also bagged an assist when he played in Hudson-Odoi.

SUB: Jorginho (on for Kante, 64 mins) – 6

Brought on to give Kante a rest and strolled through the rest of the match.

SUB: Cesar Azpilicueta (on for Zappacosta, 68 mins) – 6

Would have preferred not to be called upon but did his defensive duties with a couple of good clearances.

SUB: Pedro (on for Willian, 73 mins) – 5

Left frustrated when Hudson-Odoi failed to find him in the closing stages.
