Chelsea boss Lampard sweating on four stars – but five may return for Wolves | Football | Sport

Chelsea tackle Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday aiming to bounce back following their 2-2 draw with Sheffield United before the international break.

Lampard is trying to steer the Blues into the top four but, with injuries mounting up, the boss could be set for a headache.

Chelsea had a plethora of players on international duty this week, while others have stayed at home.

The west London giants have four players who are likely to miss the showdown against their Premier League rivals.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will miss the game with the England international not expected back until November 2.

Reece James is out until the end of the month after picking up an ankle ligament injury.

Forgotten man Marco van Ginkel and Emerson Palmieri are also set to miss the game through injury.

However, in good Chelsea news, five players could be primed to return.

N’golo Kante, Antonio Rüdiger, Pedro, Mateo Kovacic and Callum Hudson-Odoi are all expected to return on Saturday.

Kante sprained his ankle before the international break but has a 50 per cent chance of featuring.

Rudiger, meanwhile, has a 75 per cent chance of playing with the Germany international merely lacking match fitness.

Kovacic is currently being assessed by Chelsea medics behind the scene but may play some part.

And as might Hudson-Odoi and Pedro to boost Lampard’s side in attack.

Meanwhile, Chelsea star Willian has spoken out on the Blues’ mixed start under Lampard.

And he feels the west London giants’ cause has not been helped by the summer exits of Eden Hazard and David Luiz.

“I think Chelsea can win some titles this season,” he told Sky Sports.

“I know it will be hard this season to win titles, as usual, it is always hard.

“It is difficult when you lose players like David Luiz, Eden Hazard, but we have some quality young players here who can improve a lot and in the future become one of the best players in the league.

“I think we have a great team.

“But Chelsea is a big club and this shirt is heavy. When Chelsea go into a competition we go to win.

“It does not matter the players, it does not matter the coach, every year we want to win something, and I think this year we can do it again.”
