Chelsea boss Frank Lampard hints at copying Maurizio Sarri tactic with N’Golo Kante | Football | Sport

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has hinted that he will follow Maurizio Sarri in where he chooses to play N’Golo Kante.

The Juventus boss, who left the Blues in the summer, was heavily criticised for deploying Jorginho in a lone central role in holding midfield and forcing World Cup winner Kante to play slightly wider, but Lampard might now do the same.

The former England international has backed the 28-year-old as a good player going forward, which is why he won’t limit him to a defensive position.

“The idea of N’Golo Kante when they say he is the best defensive midfielder in the world, I don’t think that’s the full story.

“I don’t think it was right to say that even at Leicester.

“He gets all over the pitch. He can give you more.”

The former Leicester City man is set to return to the starting XI for the visit of Crystal Palace on Saturday, and is in line to directly replace the suspended Jorginho.

Lampard, who is hoping that his side will be sitting second in the table for the international break, has also revealed his pride at being named the Premier League manager of the month for October.

“I’m proud, really appreciate it,” he added.

“Really nice award to win. Against a very good competition, I respect the other managers. I appreciate that.

“It’s a good time to thank the people at this club, there are people behind the scenes, my staff and the players.”

He added: “It doesn’t confirm to me that I am doing a good job. Albeit it is a nice award to get on an individual basis.

“It certainly is an award that relates to much more than that, about what the club is doing and the people working behind the scenes.

“I appreciate it and I receive it not just for myself.”

The Blues beat Southampton, Newcastle and Burnley in the league last month in a run of seven consecutive wins in all competitions, and Lampard is keen to get back to winning ways after their draw against Ajax on Tuesday.
