Celtic transfer news: The two players wanted to replace Arsenal star Kieran Tierney | Football | Sport

Celtic are interested in two different left-backs to replace the departed Kieran Tierney, according to Sky Sports reporter Charles Paterson.

Tierney left the Hoops earlier this summer for a fee of around £25million.

The boyhood Celtic fan signed a long-term contract with Arsenal on the Premier League’s transfer deadline day earlier this month.

However, Celtic have until September 2 to get new signings over the line.

And Patterson says Kilmarnock’s Greg Taylor is a target and he would be available for less than £3m.

“There are a couple of left-backs who are on Celtic’s horizon,” Paterson said.

“One of them is Greg Taylor of Kilmarnock. He is a young player who has really prospered at Rugby Park in the last couple of years, he’s been in the Scotland squad.

“Is he ready to make the move and potentially replace Kieran Tierney? Can you ever replace Kieran Tierney is maybe a bigger question?

“Kilmarnock have reportedly quoted Celtic £3m – I understand from sources close to the player that valuation is a bit unrealistic.

“Nurnberg were interested in Taylor in the summer and were quoted a figure far less than that, so it depends whether or not the two clubs, if there is an offer that comes in because there hasn’t been an offer yet from Celtic, whether they cam agree a deal.”

Paterson says Rosenborg’s Birger Meling is the other left-sided defender Celtic are looking at.

However, he claims that deal may be difficult if Rosenborg qualify for the group stages of the Champions League.

“The other is Birger Meling, the Rosenborg left-back,” Paterson continued.

“He fits the type of player that Celtic are trying to sign.

“Someone who can be developed and maybe be sold on.

“He’s a Norwegian international but Rosenborg could reach the Champions League. Would that affect things potentially?”
