Arsenal news: Emery labelled Unai Wenger and slammed for extraordinary Liverpool decisions | Football | Sport

Unai Emery showed a lack of bravery for Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool on Saturday, claims talkSPORT host Adrian Durham.

The Gunners suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Emery opted for a diamond formation in midfield and left out one of his two star strikers in Alexandre Lacazette.

Durham could not believe some of Emery’s decisions and compared him to the club’s former manager Arsene Wenger.

“There’s a couple of things I want to say about who I’m now calling ‘Unai Wenger’,” Durham said.

“He plays a diamond when Liverpool have got the most brilliant wing-backs, full-backs, whatever you want to call them, in the Premier League, possibly in Europe.

“And he decides that’s the system to go with – extraordinary.

“There’s no one-to-one coaching going on with David Luiz. I actually could not believe some of the things he was doing in that second half – extraordinary stuff.

“The thing about Unai Wenger as well is he had no courage in his selection.

“You’ve got those strikers, you’ve got a very shaky defence, I still don’t think their midfield is right, so just try and outscore the opposition.

“This is what I said pre-season, they’re going to try and outscore the opposition.

“Absolutely amazing [that Lacazette did not start against Liverpool].

“[Dani] Ceballos was brilliant last week, the statue is on hold this week.

“We all knew it wouldn’t last, you’re going to have a good game every now and then.

“But it’s a reality check for Arsenal fans.”

Arsenal remain second in the table and Durham still thinks they will finish in the top four this season.

“I expect them to make the top four but not because they’re brilliant,” he continued.

“It’s probably because Man United, they’ve still got a lot of problems, Chelsea as well have a rookie manager in terms of Premier League and top flight, and Spurs have got their own problems as well.

“So I expect Arsenal by default to get in there but there wasn’t a lot to love on Saturday.”
