Arsenal are set to be without six players when they return to Premier League action against Watford following the international break.

That comes as a blow to Unai Emery who appears to have lost Granit Xhaka, Joe Willock and Lucas Torreira to injury.

He was already without long-term absentees Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney while Konstantinos Mavropanos has been injured as well.

But Emery is hoping to get his players back firing after the two-week lay-off.

Arsenal have won two, drawn one and lost one so far this season and sit fifth in the league.

They are already five points behind leaders Liverpool but have shown positive signs of progression.

They have a frightening forward line with new boy Nicolas Pepe starting to pick up speed alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

But they have issues at the back which have yet been solved by David Luiz.

Arsenal injury worries:

Hector Bellerin (Knee) – 3 weeks

Konstantinos Mavropanos (Hip) – 3 weeks

Kieran Tierney (Hip) – 3 weeks

Joe Willock (Calf) – few days

Granit Xhaka (Achilles) – few days

Lucas Torreira (Impact injury) – unknown

Emery this week has sent a message to his new recruits including Pepe, Luiz and Dani Ceballos by calling on them to adapt to their new surroundings.

“First we need to improve the adaptation of the different players who have come here in the last moments,” Emery told the official Arsenal website.

He added: “Also we need to improve in our way. For example, I think we can continue being very offensive with a lot of important offensive players.

“We also want to take the balance defensively to be strong and I think the first four matches allowed us to show our first characteristic – to be be offensive.

“Maybe we need to continue working to create a balance defensively in some moments and also tactically when making some decisions.

“But really the most important thing is how we can show our support and our energy, our spirit.

“We want to win each match but also to show them our speed, our energy playing with intensity.

“I think we are working to do that in our way, in our target of giving them a big characteristic for us. We want to play with energy.”
