Alexis Sanchez has quashed claims that he and team-mate Romelu Lukaku didn’t give it their all at Manchester United.
Manchester United sold Lukaku to Inter Milan on transfer deadline day back in August for £73million following months of speculation about his future.
Sanchez, who only scored five times during his 18 months with United, was also sent to Inter two weeks after that, on a season-long loan.
The Chile international moved to United from Arsenal in January 2018 and the transfer was met with high anticipation.
Ultimately, the move flopped, but with Sanchez on £500,000-a-week wages, United found it hard to sell him before settling on a loan to Inter.
But Sanchez, in an interview with ESPN, has said that he and Lukaku needed more game time in order to show their best abilities.
“Lukaku and I trained very well,” he said.
“But we needed to play more in games to get to our best.
“It wasn’t the right time for us to be at Manchester.
“Too many changes. When you change that much, it’s tough.”
Lukaku, who was United’s second top scorer last season with 12 goals, also chimed in, stating that it was the “perfect moment” for him to leave the Premier League.
“This could be the team I need. There’s the love I have for this area,” he said.
“The love that I have for Inter. And it was the perfect moment for me to leave England.
“I didn’t want to be there anymore.”
